![]() The Booty Olympics. Three rockin' girls with limited patience. Everybody loves a sad song. Everybody's felt disappointment, heartbreak, and unrequited love. Everybody holds secret and irrational grudges, and we all need a soundtrack that's just right. That's why The Booty Olympics was born. Power-pop under a post-punk umbrella. "I was Adelaide in my high school's production of Guys and Dolls," says Mitzi Dodge , vocalist, guitarist, and chief songwriter for the Booty Olympics, tugging on a pair of Beatle boots. "But it hasn't hurt me none". Dodge cut her teeth and skinned her knees in her first high school band, The Heretics as a vocalist and a tambourine player, "and then I taught myself to play bass by watching MTV. And that hasn't hurt me none either." She eventually found her way into bands with MOBY and the all girl, STP with Sally from The Honeymoon Killers, and Julie from Pussy Galore. After touring with Sonic Youth & Nirvana, (and passing out in Kurt Cobain's bed) she promptly quit, and formed Junior High. Later, Dodge once again strapped on a bass and joined NYC legendary garage girl rock band, The Friggs with Booty drummer and founding Friggs guitarist, Palmyra Delran. Itching to utilize her six string capabilities, Dodge formed The Booty Olympics. "My first crush was on Brian Jones, and then Marc Bolan," states Palmyra Delran , Sagittarius - a woman described by Time Out NY as having "rock n roll running through her veins." "I used to ride around on my purple Stingray bike, with the flowered basket, and sing songs by Dolly Parton. Palmyra has chomped, stomped, rounded it out and pounded it out in Das Yahoos and Philly legends Pink Slip Daddy before hooking up with Mitzi in The Friggs and finally hopping back behind a drum kit (but never sitting down) in the Booty Olympics. "I sang in a series of New Jersey punk bands that were flattened by high drama, psychosis, and autoimmune disorders", snaps bass player & vocalist, Betsy Todd. The Lovely & Talented Betsy Todd for short. A stint in NYC's Old Baby with Norman from The Swans preceded the L&T's forced entry into The Booty Olympics. "I, like Mitzi, was also Miss Adelaide in my high school's production of Guys and Dolls. And it hasn't hurt me none either. Well, maybe just a bushel and a peck." Self-released in May of 2002 and recorded on a dime, The Booty Olympics' BOYSTYLE, is a moody pop punk girl stomp debut, garnering them hot mentions in an otherwise cool world of male dominated rock. For the past year and a half these three girls have rocked all over the NYC area and still find time to make it home to watch the Golden Girls. |
